Should I Stop Using My Burglar Alarm System?

UPDATE: FYI, this is actually about the TSA.

Nearly 14 years ago, Lauren and I were robbed. The thieves took all our stuff and made a huge mess. Ever since then, we’ve been using what is, quite frankly, a rather obnoxious and intrusive burglar alarm system. One problem with this system is that it’s in the way–we have to place alarms at every threshold and door, and it takes an extra long time to enter or exit the house. Another problem is that it’s incredibly expensive.

Worse that than, it looks like the system doesn’t work. Whenever we have it tested, it looks like burglars can easily sneak in past it. Most recently, we hired a burglar alarm system testing company to test the system, and they found that it failed 95% of the time–a new low. It turns out everyone except me already knows this–the burglars know the system I have sucks and can easily be tricked, so if they’d wanted to rob me, they could have. We’ve been sitting ducks for 14 years. I’m surprising I still have my guitar collection.

I was feeling depressed about this, but then it occurred to me: Perhaps this means that I don’t need the system. After all, it basically doesn’t work, and everyone, especially the burglars, knows it doesn’t work, but I haven’t been robbed in 14 years. That means I can just stop subscribing to the service and remove all the obnoxious alarm sensors. Right? Am I missing anything?
