Guest Blogging – Michael Strong on Education

I’m pleased to announce that Michael Strong will be joining us as a guest blogger this week, writing about educational reform from a bleeding heart libertarian perspective.

Michael Strong spent fifteen years as an educational entrepreneur, creating several high-performance private and charter schools, including one named the 36th best public school in the U.S. on the Washington Post’s Challenge Index. The author of The Habit of Thought: From Socratic Seminars to Socratic Practice, Strong has consulted for hundreds of schools around the world. Prior to his career in education he began a dissertation on “Ideas and Culture as Human Capital” under Gary Becker at the University of Chicago.

Michael is also the co-founder of Radical Social EntrepreneursConscious Capitalism, Inc., and the Free Cities Institute.  He is the lead author of Be the Solution: How Entrepreneurs and Conscious Capitalists Can Solve All the World’s Problems, co-authored with John Mackey, Muhammad Yunus, Hernando de Soto, Don Beck, and others.

He is also the co-founder of the MGK Group, which was recently awarded the right to develop a Special Development Region in Honduras.  Land for the development will be purchased at market prices voluntarily from land owners and, contrary to media reports, is hundreds of miles from the region where Garifuna land rights have been abused in the past.

His first post, on the possibility of improving our current educational system, will go up later this afternoon.
