Well, then.

To my right: an economist whose CV is filled with Ayn Rand, Cato, Adam Smith, and studies of the moral foundations of markets… who won a primary with Ann Coulter-endorsed anti-immigrant demagoguery and who has immediately reduced human welfare in expected value terms by killing the chances for immigration reform and driving Republicans further into the anti-immigrant camp for the foreseeable future.

To my left: Joe Carens replies to his interlocutors at Crooked Timber about the range of justifications for open borders and free migration.

And people wonder why I’m unenthusiastic about the old fusionist project. I’ll just be over here… [takes a step toward port].

Update: Just a few minutes after posting this, I came across this bit of loveliness; an Oklahoma Tea Party-affiliated GOP candidate who calls himself “largely libertarian” endorses death by stoning as punishment for homosexuality, which is “worthy of death.” And some of my friends wonder why I’m also unenthusiastic about the new fusionist project that they think the Tea Party represents. Clearly it’s just because I’m currying favor with my fashionably-leftist academic overlords.
