Re-Reading Nozick?
Hi, everyone. It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. My son Keaton is now 2 1/2 months old, and things have started settling down for me (except that I’m in the process of moving to Virginia).
Since I mostly work in democratic theory now, I’ve haven’t had much to write about here on this blog. I’m not the type to offer running commentaries on current events or other people’s blog posts.
However, the recent smear piece* on Nozick published at Slate gave me an idea. It’s clear many critics of Nozick (including some professional philosophers) misunderstand him. Thus, would readers here be interested in a “Re-Reading Nozick” series? I would go through Anarchy, State, and Utopia, and write a concise, simple, but accurate explanation of what’s going on, along with some commentary.
I’m not myself a Nozickian (very few contemporary classical liberals are), so this series wouldn’t be about defending myself or my turf. However, since I’m a neoclassical liberal, I’ve got some sympathy for Nozick, and so am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt rather than impute to him stupid positions he doesn’t hold.
Any interest?
*EDIT: In full disclosure, I only read a small portion of that piece before giving up. I don’t have time to read stuff like that.
