Ilya Somin on Eminent Domain
The recent book by Ilya Somin, The Grasping Hand: “Kelo v. City of New London” and the Limits of Eminent Domain (University of Chicago Press, 2015) is a key contribution to the literature on property rights. I dare say that this is the most important book on eminent domain since Richard Eptsein’s classic, Takings. I’ve known Ilya’s work since he was a graduate student. His book on rational ignorance is excellent, as are his articles on a variety of topics. His voice is the voice of reason, precisely the kind of scholarship that is sorely needed in our polarized society. And this book is, today, the leading authority on Kelo. Highly recommended.
