Buy Lindy Vopnfjord’s new album, Frozen in Time

frozen-in-timeIcelandic-Canadian singer-songwriter Lindy Vopnfjord just released his latest album, entitled “Frozen in Time.”

It’s really good, and you should buy it. You can get it on iTunes right here (or on his website, if you prefer to pay in Canadian dollars). If you decide you like that, and you want more, you can get his earlier album “Young Waverer.”

Lindy considers himself a bleeding heart libertarian, and he’s written a few songs inspired by his political philosophy convictions. He reads this blog, for example. Hi Lindy!

You might be familiar with at least a few of his songs. For example, he wrote this little piece called “No Knock Raid” for Reason magazine’s Reason TV on the drug war:

Below the fold, I’ve got lots of videos of his songs (including the libertarian ones) that I want to share with you. Come down below and see just how good he is.

Okay: The first song he’s released from the new record is called “Melting.” Take a listen:

And here’s one from his “Young Waverer” album:

He’s pretty famous in Canada. He had a huge hit with this song, called Beautifully Undone, which played on Degrassi: The Next Generation, which was a big show in Canada:

And now for what I suspect you really came all the way down here to see, a few libertarian songs.

Over on his website, you can listen to a song called “Human.” From the description: “This is also a song for Yeonmi Park, who escaped from North Korea. Her story is beyond anything most of us can imagine. She believed that Kim Jong-il could read her mind. In North Korea there were no stories, no songs, no movies that would depict anything other than the love for the dear leader, for the king. Western movies and information on thumb drives are now being smuggled in and a black market generation is emerging.”

On his Soundcloud page you can listen to “Trail Tracker.” It is loosely based on my parents decision to run away from Poland to Canada (with a three-year stint as refugees in Germany waiting on Canada to approve our paperwork…) He describes it like this: “Trail Tracker is inspired by a Polish couple in the 80s Solidarity movement in Poland. They eventually had to flee Poland for their activism and came to Canada. Songs like Trail Tracker and Warsaw’s Blinking Lights tell the tale of courage, love, and loss, of yearning for a better life for your children, and the risks many took for their sake.”

Speaking of “Warsaw’s Blinking Lights,” I did a Learn Liberty video a while ago which tells the story of the underground radio station in Poland during Communist times. Lindy wrote a song about it, which you can hear at the end of this vid:
